Clinical Data Abstractor (Hybrid) ID-4198

Summary of Duties:

The Clinical Data Abstractor is responsible for reviewing data from internal and external data systems. They will have to evaluate the gaps (missing data) and any information needed to complete the medial journey story of the patients. The Clinical Data Abstractor will manage PHI daily and thus work with a high level of discretion when managing the data. This individual will review data from EMRs and other systems and add any updates in from these systems to designated internal databases as well as make notes as to why this data continues to be missing.

This individual must be self-motivated and consistently demonstrate high attention to detail. This position will report to the clinical leads and be subject to routine chart audits for accuracy and efficiency. This job individual must have a proficient knowledge of medical terminology and be able to independently manage electronic systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Follow assigned processes to review data from assigned practices for gaps and fill in gaps with data from EMR/PM systems.
  • Understand clinical terminology related to disease states as it relates to data variables abstracted.
  • Assist in data management projects as assigned.
  • Meet data management project goals.
  • Be able to communicate any concerns or insights learned during chart abstraction.

Education / Experience

  • High School diploma
  • Medical Assistant or higher education preferred . Experience in oncology and or urology is a plus.
  • Data entry experience in a production environment, or specifically in a laboratory/healthcare setting is preferred but not required
  • Teaching experience is a plus

Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledgeable in healthcare-related computer applications including practice management, electronic health record, VPN’s etc.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and transcripts based on previous industry experience is highly desirable
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to enter data
  • The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations)
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions within the scope of his or her authority
  • Ability to apply good judgment in solving everyday problems with calmness and diplomacy
  • Ability to exercise self-initiative, plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks
