Job Description: As a Data Engineer at Costco, you will be responsible for developing and operationalizing data pipelines that support Costco’s Operations Business Intelligence (BI) reporting. This role is focused on building and automating data pipelines from various internal and external data sources, ensuring that accurate and reliable data is available across the organization.

  • Design & Operationalize Data Pipelines: Create automated data pipelines for BI reporting and data analysis within Costco’s operations.
  • Collaborate with Cross-functional Teams: Work with data architects, engineers, and BI teams to design and optimize data pipelines.
  • ETL/ELT Process Development: Design and implement ETL/ELT processes using IICS (Informatica Cloud) and MySQL.
  • Cloud Technologies: Use Azure services such as Azure SQL Data Warehouse (SQL DW), ADLS, Azure Event Hub, and Azure Data Factory to enhance data pipeline performance and delivery.
  • Big Data & NoSQL Solutions: Implement large-scale data processing and NoSQL solutions to provide high-value insights.
  • Process Automation & Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to automate manual workflows and optimize data delivery.
  • Data Reliability & Quality: Ensure the integrity, reliability, and quality of data across systems and platforms.
  • Communication: Present technical concepts to non-technical audiences both in written and verbal formats.
  • Peer Review: Conduct peer reviews of work produced by other data engineers to ensure high standards of quality.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in designing and operationalizing data pipelines with large, complex datasets.
  • 2+ years of experience with Informatica PowerCenter and Informatica IICS.
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies such as Azure Databricks, Azure Event Hub, and Azure Data Factory.
  • 2+ years of experience in Data Modeling, ETL, and Data Warehousing.
  • 2+ years of experience with data integration techniques (event/message-based integration, Kafka, Azure Event Hub).
  • 2+ years of experience with Git and Azure DevOps.
  • Experience working with various data sources such as SQL, SQL Server, flat files (CSV, delimited), Web APIs, and XML.
  • Strong SQL skills and an understanding of relational databases, business data, and the ability to write complex SQL queries.
  • Strong understanding of database storage concepts, including Data Lakes, relational databases, NoSQL, Graph databases, and Data Warehousing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile development environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Azure certifications or similar credentials.
  • Experience with agile development practices.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with UC4 Job Scheduler.
  • Exposure to the retail industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
