Full job description iMedX is hiring experienced coders for inpatient facilities. Facility coders have extensive experience with DRG-based reimbursement for inpatient coding and have worked for facilities. Pro-fee coders who specialize in coding for physicians who provide inpatient care are exempt from this position.

Status as a full-time, part-time, or independent contractor will be taken into account. Candidates must have the necessary credentials to demonstrate compliance with this requirement and a minimum of three years of broad-based acute care inpatient coding experience. Work from home or remotely, this is the position.

Purpose:

In accordance with the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and iMedX standards, the Medical Coding Specialist extracts clinical data from health records and assigns complete and accurate codes.

Organizational Design: The Coding Manager is in charge of the coding specialist.

Principal Obligations:

extracts pertinent clinical data from the medical records.

Using the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting (OGCR), it determines the primary and secondary diagnoses and assigns ICD-10-CM codes to them.

identifies procedures based on OGCR with ICD-10-PCS codes.

possesses a thorough comprehension of how inpatient coding is affected by DRG-based reimbursement.

Possess sufficient knowledge of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) strategies to effectively communicate with Facility CDI staff in order to promote their initiatives. Able to identify instances where a physician query is required for accurate code assignment.

demonstrates familiarity with facility data systems like CPSI, MediTech, EPIC, and Cerner.
demonstrates proficiency in working with encoders like 3M and TruCODE.

satisfies or exceeds the iMedX quality standards for coding.

complies with and comprehends all coding compliance requirements.

uses professional work practices and effective time management to code in an effective and productive manner. satisfies position-specific productivity standards.

promptly forwards coding questions to the Coding Manager for evaluation and the creation of coding guidelines.

progressively improves coding abilities. attends educational conferences and team meetings to ensure that coding practice is up to date.

protects the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information (PHI).

promotes the values of the company.

carries out any additional tasks related to the job that may be assigned or required.

The preferred coding credential is a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Experience: working knowledge of the ICD coding system and coding experience of at least three years; terms used in medicine; physiology and anatomy; and the content of a health record. possesses intermediate computer skills, excellent customer service skills, a sense of urgency for work, and written and verbal communication skills.
